50 shades of truth behind apps
In SA Student social media report 2014Reality and communication of the truth on social media platforms appears to be dependent on which social media platform one interacts, posts and engages with according to the SA Student Media Consumption Survey 2014.
Students admittedly realize that who they say they are, how they claim to behave and the image that they convey through social media is for the most part either a fabricated lie or a shaded truth.
Applications such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, were seen to facilitate this need to shade the truth and create a different and more desirable reality. However, the degree of on stretching the truth and venturing into telling a complete lie and untruth was influenced by the platform.
Because Gran and good old mum was potentially ones friend on Facebook, stretching the truth was limited, however on other mediums where close friends and family were not actively on or engaged with stretching the truth was more permissible.
