Social media, a student’s loverIn SA Student social media report 2014
According to the SA Student Media Consumption Survey 2014, SM holds many parodies and subsequently a significant degree of tension is evident.
An affair for many was a fitting analogy for student’s relationship with Social media. For many like in many love affairs a love vs. hate relationship resides, you tend to sneak around with them, you love the cheap thrill that an affair provides and off course most affairs take place in the bedroom.
Beyond the love vs. hate relationship that resided amongst students other parodies such as ones feeling of being connected whilst still feeling disconnected was evident. The aspect of seeking and wanting privacy whilst at the same time-sharing all, left students torn. The need to be honest whilst shade the truth or create a fictitious story to enhance ones image was real and this lead to students desire to reflect the fake me and occasionally the real me.
