The main Big-ticket items which students spend their cash on according to the SA Student Spend Survey 2015, remains clothing with premium fashion labels forming a large part of this, followed by cell phones as well as laptops. Within the latter two spaces, we see the likes of Samsung as well as apple playing highly aspirational and in many cases obtainable worth.

This may be one of the few times that we see a student saving. Students will be prepared to save for a big-ticket item, particularly if the item being saved for has badge value and will aid enhance their image.
